why babies really cry

because they have lost the intimacy

and the safety

they have known

and what they face

is life on their own

essentially alone

to deal with the unknown

and the dangers

of life in the world

and now

each of us

is like a yowling infant

thrust out of the safety we have known

leaving it because we've outgrown it

when you gotta go you gotta go

and a great adventure awaits

but it is the end of an era

the end of an era

the beginning of another.
