*I decided that I really want to swim with dolphins when I go to the Bahamas next month. I asked my parents what they thought about this, and they both looked equally horrified, clutched large alcoholic beverages, and said, "In the water? But you can't swim." Still, I believe it's a fairly controlled environment. I'm definitely not going to mention the "easy" SCUBA they offer down there for people who don't have certification, or I'll turn around and my mother will pop up unannounced from behind a palm tree.
*Hell fuckin' DAYUM I love Sarah Brown. Bill Murray, Ghostbusters, Charlotte's Web, and an exploding Tom Cruise in one post? Girl can't help it - I'm a fangirl.
*This national poetry map is the coolest thing I've come across this week.
*I found an INSECT - a large, wasp-like looking thing, with wings - in my Panera chicken salad the other day. SO bummed. QUITE unhappy. The churlish manager reluctantly refunded my money. Whatever. It had WINGS, lady. Go wash your lettuce.
*You may now impatiently await a new post about my experience with eyebrow waxing that will make you laugh. I think I'm too tired to write it right about now.
*I cannot stand any more crazy-like-they-can't-help-it people right now. I just can't. I am more me these days than ever, and what's funny is that even though that makes more people than usual sort of smile and nod when they're talking to me, the people I have in my life, the friendships I can currently count on (true, real, honest - you know? That kind? Really.) are the bomb. Writing that sentence just called to mind a quote that I just googled (because that's what I do. Used to be I got my chubby little girl ass to a library and used a card catalog. Now I watch ER and then I haul myself ALL THE WAY DOWNSTAIRS and I Google. Holy Jehosophat, it's a brave new world, and I love it.) It goes like this:
A friend is one
To whom one may pour
Out all the contents
Of one's heart,
Chaff and grain together,
Knowing that the
Gentlest of hands
Will take and sift it,
Keep what is worth keeping
And with a breath of kindness
Blow the rest away.
(Arabian proverb)
These are my friends right now. I got some sifters along the way. With all that is happening that is not ideal, this is the ideal. This is "blessed" in the non-700 Club sense of the word.
*And finally, I saw so many stupid headlines regarding the Paul McCartney/Heather Mills divorce that incorporate Beatles' song titles or the general state of being a Beatle, or...something. Therefore, I did a Google News search on this very topic, because if there's one thing I love, it's a totally irrelevant news search.
"McCartney Joins Lonely Hearts Club"
"McCartney Solo Again After Split"
"They Can't Work it Out" ("We Can Work it Out" is a fabulous song, though, is it not? Love that tune.)
"Paul McCartney may well be on a long and winding road - through the courts"
Short and Winding Road: Heather and Paul Separate Arizona Republic
"All you need is love? Sounds unlikely, Sir Paul" http://www.drownedinsound.com/content/view/842184
"Sir Paul McCartney: A man on the run" BOO!!!!!!!!! This one is really dumb.
Southflorida.com wins the dubious prize for the worst combination of cliches, with "When he's 64, Paul McCartney may well be on a long and winding road."
Poor Paul. Go from one of the greatest bicontinental love stories ever to an Access Hollywood headline in five years. He seems sweet. I'll totally hang out with him. ; )
