Occasionally people will tell me I'm a riot. I kind of like it, but I don't know if it's a good thing. I guess it's better than saying I'm "a hoot", which kind of makes me want to break something, and when I hear myself saying it (which I occasionally do, quite accidentally, because it's stored somewhere in my mental dustbin of cliches and random things that people I used to hang out with said that stuck) I want to slap myself in the face.
All things considered, I really don't know if it's a good idea that I call to mind an image of people with burning torches, beating each other senseless, breaking windows and screaming and the like. And if we're going for that image, I'd much rather use "melee." "Melee" is a much better word, and I'm going to try to work it in this weekend, hopefully in places where it makes sense.
Try it. Next time someone's funny, go, "You're such a melee." And if they laugh, or even if they go, "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life," they should be your friend. Because at least they'll know what you're doing.
